John E. Ray

                    John E. Ray served as the seventh superintendent at KSD from 1894 to1896.  Ray was born in North Carolina on January 22, 1852.  He graduated from Wake Forest (N. C.) College with degree of M. A. in 1875 and taught North Carolina School for the Deaf from 1875 to 1885.  He married Miss Finie A. Carter on November 2, 1881 in Wilson, N.C.    He served as corresponding secretary of Baptist State Convention of North Carolina from 1885 to 1887.  He was superintendent of Colorado School for the Deaf from 1887 to 1894 and N. C. S. D. from 1896 to 1918.  John Ray died in Raleigh, N. C. in January 18, 1918.
